SAGE ROOT HEALTH

Sage Care, the root of health

Sage Root Health is a private practice, created to offer holistic, individualized care that looks beyond symptoms and focuses on the whole person.

About Me

Hello, my name is Jenine Innes, MSN, ARNP, FNP-BC and I am trained in Family Medicine. I have worked in the healthcare system for over two decades, beginning my career as a Registered Nurse after graduating from North Idaho College in 2005. When I first entered nursing, my long-term goal was to become a midwife. I planned to work in obstetrics and eventually advance into that specialty. While my career path unfolded differently, those early aspirations shaped my perspective. I remain a strong advocate for safe and compassionate maternal and neonatal care, and that foundation continues to influence how I approach patients and families today.

Background & History

I have worked in a wide range of clinical settings, including adult and pediatric emergency care, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, medical/surgical care and in Hospice. These experiences have allowed me to care for patients at every stage of life—from the most acute and critical moments to the deeply personal process of end-of-life support. In 2018, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I faced a period of deep reflection about the direction of healthcare and my role within it. Rather than stepping away from medicine, which was my impulse, I chose to deepen my commitment. In 2021, I returned to school and in 2024 earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University, becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. I worked in pediatric primary and urgent care before opening my own practice. Beyond my professional life, I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I have a lifelong love of learning and read widely—especially in history, medicine, botany, mycology, archaeology, chemistry, physiology, and biophysics. I enjoy travel, cooking, and gardening, and I regularly practice and teach Hatha yoga. When possible, I spend time in nature, which I believe plays an essential role in overall health and wellbeing. I live in Spokane with my husband and our two youngest children as they begin their next chapters

My Approach to health and healing

A whole-person approach shaped by decades of clinical experience—where listening comes first, care is collaborative, and healing is guided by understanding the body, mind, and lived experience as one interconnected system.

When I first went to nursing school, I was trained to care for the whole patient. I learned to observe closely, recognize subtle changes early, administer treatments carefully, educate families, provide emotional support, and advocate for the person in front of me. That foundation shaped how I see medicine. It taught me not only the common patterns of illness, but also how differently each individual responds to treatment.

Later, in my Nurse Practitioner training, I was taught to think more strategically about diagnosis and medical management—identifying underlying pathology, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing appropriate treatments, and directing a plan of care. That education expanded my clinical tools, but it did not replace the nursing lens I began with.

The difference is often one of emphasis. My nursing foundation prioritizes prevention, listening, and patient-centered care from the start. In practice, that means I take time to understand your life, your environment, your emotional world, and the context surrounding your symptoms. Care becomes a collaborative partnership—guided by experience, but shaped around you.

I know there are many valid approaches to health and healing. I also know that no two people are the same. To address root causes rather than simply manage symptoms, I must understand your story—your experiences, stressors, habits, relationships, and beliefs.

Body, mind, and spirit are never separate in my view. Health is not about fixing isolated parts; it is about restoring balance to the whole person. We will look at sleep, nutrition, movement, lifestyle, emotional health, spirituality, and past experiences—because true healing happens when all of these are considered together.

My goal is not simply symptom control. It is to help restore balance so your own resilience and innate capacity for healing can do what they were designed to do.

My approach to Patient care

Care for individuals and families seeking an integrative approach—one that honors personal choice, looks beyond symptoms, and supports healing through honesty and whole-person guidance.

Who This Care Is For:

This practice is designed for individuals and families who want care that sees the full picture—care that knows you well and is genuinely committed to your long-term health and wellbeing.

It may be a good fit if you:

  • Want to move beyond symptom management and explore the deeper roots of your health concerns

  • Respect conventional medicine but prefer a more individualized and integrative approach

  • Feel that a past treatment or medical intervention may have contributed to negative changes in your health

  • Are looking for an approach that thoughtfully combines modern medical science with natural, holistic tools

  • Value honesty, open conversation, and a practitioner who supports your choices without judgment

  • Want to better understand your child’s symptoms and explore options that align with your family’s values

  • Hope to reduce or simplify medications when appropriate by supporting your body’s natural healing processes

  • Appreciate guidance that meets you where you are and evolves with you over time

  • Want education, tools, and resources so you feel informed and empowered—not dependent

  • Prefer an integrative model that doesn’t force you to choose between “traditional” and “alternative,” but uses both when they make sense

This is care built on partnership, clarity, and a deep respect for your story

Care across the lifespan:

Comprehensive, individualized care across the lifespan—from newborns to end of life—grounded in medical expertise, personal choice, and a deep respect for how people and families choose to live, heal, and navigate their health on their own terms.

Health & Wellness Care

I provide personalized care that begins with understanding the full picture of your health. This includes your medical history, current concerns, lifestyle, environment, and the goals you have for your wellbeing. Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms alone, I look at how different aspects of your life and health interact. This broader perspective allows us to create a care plan that is thoughtful, practical, and truly suited to you.

Health is rarely shaped by a single factor. Sleep patterns, nutrition, stress levels, relationships, work demands, physical activity, and past experiences can all influence how the body functions and heals. During our visits, we take time to explore these elements together. By understanding the patterns and pressures that affect your daily life, we can identify meaningful opportunities to support your health in ways that are sustainable and realistic.

When illness occurs, my goal is to address it with careful evaluation and appropriate medical care while also considering the underlying contributors that may be involved. This might include reviewing medications, evaluating lifestyle factors, ordering labs or imaging when necessary, and discussing supportive strategies that can help your body recover and maintain balance. Care decisions are made collaboratively, with clear explanations so you can feel confident in the direction we choose together.

In addition to managing current concerns, I place strong emphasis on prevention and long-term health. Many chronic conditions develop slowly over time, often influenced by patterns that begin years earlier. By paying attention to these patterns and making adjustments when needed, we can often support better outcomes and improve overall resilience and quality of life.

Ultimately, my approach is built around partnership. I see healthcare as a collaborative process where your knowledge of your own body and experiences is just as important as my clinical training. Together we work toward care that is attentive, respectful, and adaptable—supporting your health not only today, but over the long term.

I especially enjoy working with families who think carefully about how they approach their health. Many parents today are looking for care that aligns with their values. They may be interested in minimizing unnecessary exposures, asking deeper questions about their child’s health, forgoing routine recommendations and making informed decisions about what is best for their family. My role is to support families in that process—offering medical insight, honest conversation, and guidance that respects both science and parental intuition.

Raising children comes with countless decisions, and not every family chooses the same path. Some parents prefer a more individualized approach to healthcare, one that considers lifestyle, environment, nutrition, development, and emotional wellbeing alongside traditional medical care. I welcome these conversations and work collaboratively with families who want to explore the reasons behind their child’s symptoms and development, rather than simply addressing issues as they arise.

My goal is to provide steady support from the earliest stages of life through the many transitions of childhood and parenting. This includes newborn wellness visits, developmental guidance, illness evaluation, and broader discussions about sleep, nutrition, growth, and family health. Care is always personalized, with attention to the unique needs of each child and the goals of the family.

For newborns in particular, those first weeks can be both wonderful and overwhelming. To make things easier for new parents, I routinely offer home visits for infants up to about three months old. Meeting in your home allows us to spend time together in a calm, familiar environment where you and your baby feel most comfortable. It also provides the opportunity to observe feeding, sleep patterns, and early development in the natural rhythms of your daily life.

Ultimately, my aim is to support families in raising healthy, resilient children while honoring the values and instincts that guide them. Parenting is deeply personal, and healthcare should meet families where they are—with respect and a shared commitment to the wellbeing of the next generation.

As your Family Nurse Practitioner, I can prescribe and manage medications, order and interpret laboratory tests, request imaging studies such as X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, or CT scans, and make referrals to specialists or other providers when appropriate. My goal is to ensure you have access to the tools and evaluations needed to fully understand and address your health concerns.

I maintain relationships with laboratory and imaging centers that offer transparent cash pricing, which is often significantly lower than standard insurance-billed rates. This allows us to obtain necessary testing efficiently and affordably.

I am also building a carefully curated network of trusted practitioners across a broad spectrum of care—from medical specialists to complementary providers such as acupuncturists, herbalists, massage therapists, nutritionists, naturopaths, physical therapists, and mind-body practitioners. When additional expertise is helpful, I can guide you toward professionals who align with this thoughtful, integrative approach.

Please note the following practice boundaries:

  • I do not assume management of chronic opioid pain medications unless you are a qualifying palliative or hospice patient.

  • I will only assume management of psychiatric medications (such as SSRIs, benzodiazepines, stimulants, or mood stabilizers) when there is a clear, mutually agreed-upon plan to gradually taper and discontinue them.

  • I do not prescribe GLP-1 medications.

  • I do not prescribe psychiatric medications to children.

These boundaries ensure that care remains aligned with the philosophy and focus of this practice.

Specialized Care

Mental health shapes how we connect, cope, and thrive—it’s woven into our experiences, relationships, and daily rhythms. As an FNP I offer counseling that provides a safe, unrushed space to explore these elements with compassion and insight.

My approach is personal and collaborative, focused on listening to your story without judgment. For anxiety, depression, grief, or daily stressors, we uncover patterns and create authentic strategies, emphasizing self-awareness and resilient tools from evidence-based practices.

I use holistic methods like mindfulness to calm the mind, breathing exercises for quick relief, and reflective practices to process emotions. We’ll examine how habits—such as better sleep or stronger connections—can transform your emotional world, building confidence in handling life’s challenges.

This service suits adults and families wanting an alternative to traditional therapy, one that honors autonomy and growth over pathology. It’s great for life transitions, parental support for kids’ emotional needs, or preventive steps to boost mental strength without heavy medical focus.

Sessions start with a 60-minute initial talk to understand your goals, followed by 30- or 60-minute follow-ups. Options include in-person or virtual.

Separately, for those on SSRIs or similar medications interested in de-prescribing, I offer guided support—gradual tapering with monitoring and alternatives to ensure safety and ease any withdrawal.

If this holistic counseling aligns with your needs, contact me. I’m dedicated to supporting your whole-person journey with empathy and space for healing.

Cannabis has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Across cultures and generations, it has served as both a practical and therapeutic plant—used for fiber, food, topical preparations, and for its medicinal properties. When appropriate, I consider cannabis in its various formulations as one of several tools we may explore together, depending on your needs and health goals.

One reason I may recommend cannabis—though not in every case—is its safety profile. Unlike opioids and certain other medications, cannabis has no recorded fatal overdoses from its active compounds alone. It works through the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), a regulatory network identified in the 1990s that helps maintain balance in areas such as pain perception, stress response, immune function, and sleep.

Compounds such as CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids interact with this system and may support balance when the body is under strain. For some individuals, cannabis can serve as a gentler alternative or a complementary option when other treatments have not been fully effective.

In appropriate cases, it may be considered for chronic pain, arthritis, anxiety, depression, insomnia, appetite loss, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, autoimmune conditions, PTSD, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, migraines, inflammatory bowel disease, muscle spasm, Parkinson’s symptoms, dementia-related agitation, ADHD, autism, cancer-related pain, and medication withdrawal support.

Cannabis is not a cure-all, and it is not right for everyone. My recommendations are always individualized. For the right person, at the right time, it can be a meaningful addition to a comprehensive, personalized care plan.

I provide personalized IV therapy as an integrated element of your overall care plan. This approach administers fluids, vitamins, minerals, and specific nutrients directly into the bloodstream for rapid absorption, bypassing the digestive tract. Every infusion is tailored to your unique health background, objectives, and safety profile. Options may enhance hydration, bolster immunity, aid recovery, boost energy, promote stress management, or replenish key nutrients. All components are sourced from pharmaceutical-grade suppliers and handled with rigorous safety protocols.IV health services can stand alone or complement a consultation or package. Sessions generally run 30–60 minutes and are offered in-office or via home visits in the Spokane region.

Potential Benefits of IV Health Services

  • Immediate nutrient delivery via the bloodstream
  • Assistance with energy levels, immune strength, recovery, and general vitality
  • Customized mixes aligned with your personal health needs
  • Beneficial for adults, active individuals, and those managing select chronic issues (where suitable)
  • IV health services complement, but do not replace, thorough medical oversight.
  • They serve as one tool in a holistic, patient-specific strategy

How the Process Works

  • Health Screening: A concise evaluation of your medical history, medications, allergies, and potential risks.
  • Customized Plan: We select a suitable formulation based on your requirements and safety assessment.
  • Administration: Relax during the infusion while I oversee the process.
  • Aftercare: Prioritize hydration and rest post-session. Effects may appear immediately or build over time.
  • Safety comes first. IV health services aren’t recommended for those who are pregnant, have kidney or heart concerns, or use certain medications. Pre-treatment screening is mandatory.

If you are currently taking psychiatric medications—such as antidepressants, stimulant, benzodiazepines, or mood stabilizers—and feel numb, foggy, or burdened by ongoing side effects, you may be wondering whether it’s possible to feel like yourself again without them. At the same time, it’s completely understandable to fear withdrawal symptoms, rebound anxiety or depression, or the belief that you may need the medication indefinitely.

In some situations, these medications can be helpful—particularly during acute or crisis periods. However, they do not always address the deeper contributors to depression or anxiety, such as chronic stress, unresolved trauma or grief,  sleep disruption, nutrient deficiencies, gut health concerns, or difficult life circumstances. Over time, some people experience diminishing benefit, increasing tolerance, or side effects that begin to outweigh the original reason for starting the medication.

One of the biggest concerns when discontinuing psychiatric medications is withdrawal. Symptoms can include increased anxiety, mood changes, insomnia, dizziness, flu-like feelings, or other neurological sensations. This process can be challenging if done too quickly, which is why it should never be rushed.

If your goal is to discontinue one or more psychiatric medication, I approach this carefully and methodically. We move at your body’s pace, using gradual tapering strategies, close monitoring, supportive nutrition, targeted supplements when appropriate, and attention to mind-body factors that help stabilize you during the process. We also work on addressing the underlying contributors to your symptoms so that you’re not simply removing a medication without support.

When done slowly and carefully, many people find they can successfully reduce or discontinue medication and feel clearer, more stable, and more like themselves again.

Some of the most meaningful work I have ever done is in palliative and end-of-life care. For qualifying clients living with advanced, chronic, or terminal illness, I provide palliative support and  guidance focusing on symptom management, comfort, and steady presence in the place where you feel most at ease, your home.

When we begin conversations about life, illness, and end-of-life wishes early—before a crisis arises—you gain greater clarity and peace of mind. Planning ahead can reduce fear, prevent unwanted treatments, ease the burden on loved ones, and increase the likelihood that your final chapter reflects your values and preferences.

These discussions are not only medical—they are deeply personal. We talk about what matters most to you: how you want to feel, where you want to be, who you want around you, and which treatments align with your beliefs—or which ones you prefer to avoid. I guide these conversations with honesty and compassion, helping you document advance directives if you choose and creating a clear plan so your wishes are understood and respected.

Thoughtful planning often leads to less stress, improved quality of life, fewer hospitalizations you may not want, and families who feel supported rather than overwhelmed.

I offer personalized, direct-pay care with a focus on transparency and flexibility. This approach allows me to spend more time with you and provide, individualized care without the limitations of insurance-based visits.

You can choose the structure that best fits your needs:

  • Individual visits for occasional care or consultation

  • Bundles for more consistent, short-term support

  • Membership options for ongoing care and access over time

All fees are due at or before the time of service. I accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, and HSA/FSA payments. There are no hidden fees or copays.

If you’re unsure where to start, you’re welcome to reach out for a brief initial conversation to explore what may be the best fit for your situation.
